A Little Sleep, A Little Slumber - Proverbs 6:10

In the book of Proverbs Solomon asked, “How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep?”, and in chapter six and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “a little sleep, a little slumber” where we read,

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

The verse begins, Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, .... Solomon began with the words, “yet a little sleep” or “still a small or few amounts of slumber and rest”, “a little slumber” which means “a small amount of drowsiness”. Solomon referred to the small amount of rest and drowsiness a person may experience.

The verse goes on to say, “... a little folding of the hands to sleep:” Solomon continued with the words, “a little folding” or “a small amount of lazy clasping” “of the hands” which means “pertaining to the physical hands” “to sleep” or “to lie down, lodge, relax, slumber and rest”. Solomon referred to a small amount of idleness of the physical hands in relaxation and slumbering a person may have in their lives.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how Solomon began to share what would happen if a person continually rested. He knew too much relaxation and rest would cause idle hands that produced nothing. God gives us provision for rest, however, we are to be active in His Kingdom when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep our “hands” from an abundance of resting and laziness and not enough production within His Kingdom.

Next time Solomon says, “so shall your poverty come on one that travails”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
