In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A naughty person, a wicked man, walks with a froward mouth. He winks with his eyes, he speaks with his feet, he teaches with his fingers. Frowardness is in his heart, he devises mischief continually; he sows discord”, and in chapter six and verse fifteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “therefore shall his calamity come suddenly” where we read,
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
The verse begins, “Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly;”. Solomon began with the word, “therefore” or “then, wherefore and these things being so” “shall his calamity” which means “will his, the naughty and wicked person's, distress, burden and disaster” “come suddenly” or “be attained, besieged and carried about in an instant, straightway and invasive manner”. Solomon shared the result of the naughty and wicked person acting in a pernicious manner would be that distress and disaster would enter their lives in an instant and invasive way.
The verse continues, “suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.” Solomon added the words, “suddenly shall he be broken” or “in an instant and unexpectedly he, the person who is naughty and wicked, will exist as rent violently, wrecked, crushed and ruptured” “without remedy” which means “not having a health, profit or cure”. Solomon said the person who is naughty and wicked will be instantly wrecked and crushed without having a cure for their disastrous state.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how instant and unexpected consequences would enter into the lives of people who are naughty and wicked, and they would be destroyed not having a cure in sight. God shares these things with us in advance because He wants to warn us of the effects of behavior that is adverse to Him. God loves us, and He proved His love to us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord” , He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the “sudden” disastrous results that come from living in a way that is in opposition to Him.
Next time Solomon says, “these six things does the LORD hate”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
