In the book of Proverbs Solomon asked, “How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall your poverty come as one that travails, and your want as an armed man”, and in chapter six and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “a naughty person” and “a wicked man” where we read,
A naughty person, a wicked man, walks with a froward mouth.
The verse begins, “A naughty person, a wicked man, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “a naughty person” or “a worthless, good for nothing, base and unprofitable human being whether male or female”, “a wicked man” which means “a criminal, guilty of crime and hostile to God person whether male or female”. Solomon said a human being who is good for nothing, criminal and hostile to God does the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... walks with a froward mouth.” Solomon continued with the word, “walks” or “ambles and makes their way about” “with a froward mouth” which means “by the use of a distorted, crooked and perverse orifice in the face used for drinking, eating and speaking”. Solomon said the person who is “naughty and wicked” makes their way through life by the use of their distorted and crooked “mouth”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon knew the path of life of the people who are worthless, good for nothing, criminal and hostile to God. They use their “mouths” to speak in distorted and crooked ways. God does not want us to live this way. He knows we are prone to sin against Him and His law, and the penalty for sin is death. (See Romans 3:23; 6:23) He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from worthless and good for nothing living and perversities coming from our “mouths”.
Next time Solomon says, “he winks with his eyes, he speaks with his feet”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
