In the book of Proverbs Solomon said “Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry. But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. But whosoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: he that does it destroys his own soul”, and in chapter six and verse thirty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “a wound and dishonor shall he get” where we read,
A wound and dishonor shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
The verse begins, “A wound and dishonor shall he get;”. Solomon began with the words, “a wound and dishonor” or “a stroke, plague, disease, mark and sore and shame, disgrace, ignominy and confusion” “shall he get” which means “will he, the one who commits adultery, find, attain, secure and acquire”. Solomon shared how the person who “commits adultery” will obtain a mark with shame and disgrace because of their behavior.
The verse continues, “and his reproach shall not be wiped away.” Solomon added the words, “and his reproach” or “and his, the one who commits adultery's, scorn, taunt, pudenda and contumely” “shall not be wiped away” which means “will in no way or manner exist as obliterated and exterminated”. Solomon said the scorning and taunting of the person who “commits adultery” will in no way be exterminated.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the reputation and honor of the person who “commits adultery” suffers greatly when they are discovered. The taunting and scorning of them continues throughout their lives, and this horrific curse is not what God wants for anyone. This is why He said, “you shall not commit adultery”, and yet, He is willing to forgive anyone who has failed in this sin. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the power and ability to resist “committing adultery” and any other sin into which we are tempted.
Next time Solomon says, “jealousy is the rage of a man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
