In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of your life shall be many. I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths”, and in chapter four and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “when you go, your steps shall not be straitened” where we read,
When you go, your steps shall not be straitened; and when you run, you shall not stumble.
The verse begins, “When you go, your steps shall not be straitened;”. Solomon began with the words, “when you go” or “at the time and moment you, Solomon's son, walk, depart, proceed and move in the manner of life”, “your steps” which means “your, the son of Solomon's, pace, stride and course of life” “shall not be straitened” or “will in no way exist as bound, distressed, besieged and vexed”. Solomon shared how his son's stride and course of life would not exist as distressed and besieged as he received his father's words of wisdom.
The verse continues, “and when you run, you shall not stumble.” Solomon added the words, “and when you run” or “and at the time and moment you, Solomon's son, swiftly dart, move and hurry” “you shall not stumble” which means “you, Solomon's son, will in no way or manner stagger, totter and be made feeble and weak”. Solomon said at the time and moment his son swiftly darts and moves, he would not stagger, totter or be made weak.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon told his son that his walk and manner of life would not be distressed and vexed, and at the time he hurried and darted about, he would not totter and be made weak. This would be the result of hearing and obeying his words of wisdom. God wants to be involved in our lives as well, and when we commit ourselves to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and watch over and keep us as we dart about and proceed through this world.
Next time Solomon says to his son, “take fast hold of instruction”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
