In the book of Proverbs Solomon said a woman of the streets, “is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: Now is she without, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner.)”, and in chapter seven and verse thirteen of Proverbs Solomon said the woman, “caught him, and kissed him” where we read,
So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
The verse begins, “So she caught him, and kissed him, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “so she caught him” or “therefore, then and on this account she, the woman dressed as a harlot, restrained, conquered and constrained him, the youth void of understanding”, “and kissed him” which means “and gently touched him, the youth void of understanding, with her lips”. Solomon shared how the prostitute seized the young man and affectionately kissed him with her lips.
The verse continues, “and with an impudent face said unto him, ...” Solomon added the words, “and with an impudent face” or “and by the use of a prevailing presence and countenance” “said unto him” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to him, the youth void of understanding” the words in our next verse. Solomon said the harlot used her prevailing countenance to proclaim what is found in our next verse.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the woman “caught, kissed and used her countenance” to persuade the young man void of understanding to follow her pernicious ways. Sin comes in seductive forms that are attractive in the beginning but have horrific consequences afterward. God knew this, and He understood how all people fail. (See Romans 3:10,23) This is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the strength by His Holy Spirit to resist temptations regardless of how they appear and how influential they are.
Next time Solomon shares how the woman says, “I have peace offerings with me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
