Feet That Go Down to Death - Proverbs 5:5

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil. But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword”, and in chapter five and verse five of Proverbs Solomon told his son, her feet go down to death” where we read,

Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

The verse begins, “Her feet go down to death;. Solomon began with the words, “her feet” or “her, the strange woman's, physical feet or pace” “go down to death” which means “descend, decline and march in a downward direction toward pestilence, ruin and violent dying”. Solomon shared how the strange woman's pace or path descends toward ruin, pestilence and violent dying.

The verse goes on to say, “her steps take hold on hell.” Solomon continued with the words, “her steps take hold” or “her, the strange woman's strides or paces lay hold of, attain, grasp and keep support” “on hell” which means “upon sheol, the underworld, the grave, the pit and extreme degradation in sin”. Solomon said the strange woman's strides grasp and attain the underworld and degradation in sinful behavior.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the path of the “strange woman” proceeds toward dying, and her paces lay hold of the underworld. This is not the way God wants us to live our lives. God is in the saving business, and He will provide salvation and forgive every person of their sins who yields to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the errors and wrongs of all mankind. Let us take heed to the advice of Solomon and keep ourselves from people who would lead us into a path toward “death” where we would “take hold on hell”.

Next time Solomon tells his son, her ways are moveable, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
