In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Drink waters out of your own cistern, and running waters out of your own well. Let your fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets”, and in chapter five and verse seventeen of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “let them be only your own, and not strangers” where we read,
Let them be only your own, and not strangers' with you.
The verse begins, “Let them be only your own, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “let them be” or “allow and permit them, the fountains and rivers of waters, exist as” “only your own” which means “solely yours, the son of Solomon's, separate and alone”. Solomon told his son to allow his fountains and rivers of waters to exist as solely his own.
The verse goes on to say, “... and not strangers' with you.” Solomon continued with the words, “and not strangers” or “and no and not in any way a foreigner or loathsome prostitute or harlot” “with you” which means “alongside and beside you, Solomon's son”. Solomon instructed his son not to allow a foreign or loathsome person to partake of his fountains and flowing rivers.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon instructed his son to permit his “fountain and running waters” to be solely his, and there was not to be anyone else involved with them. God provides spouses to people, and they are to romantically live exclusively with one another. Marriage becomes a wonderful illustration for our exclusive personal relationship with God through His Son Jesus. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to save us from our sins, and He died on the cross to pay for the sins of the whole world. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of partaking of our own “fountain and running waters” while we live solely for Him.
Next time Solomon says to his son, “let your fountain be blessed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
