Drink Waters from Your Own Cistern - Proverbs 5:15

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly”, and in chapter five and verse fifteen of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “drink waters out of your own cistern where we read,

Drink waters out of your own cistern, and running waters out of your own well.

The verse begins, “Drink waters out of your own cistern, .... Solomon began with the words, “drink waters” or “imbibe refreshing springs or floods” “out of your own cistern” which means “from your, the son of Solomon's, own personal pit or well”. Solomon instructed his son to imbibe the water that springs from his own personal well.

The verse goes on to say, “... and running waters out of your own well.” Solomon continued with the words, “and running waters” or “and distilled, flowing, trickling and dropping springs or floods” “out of your own well” which means “from you, the son of Solomon's, own personal pit or spring”. Solomon told his son to imbibe of the distilled flowing springs from his own personal pit.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his son to only partake from what belonged to him. He was not to wander off and participate with the “strange woman”. God gives His blessings to us according to His own pleasure, and we are to “drink” from that which he has provided. Too many people get into big trouble when they imbibe from that which is another person's possession, and this sinful behavior can cause great ruin and destruction. God loves us, and He gave us His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for our sins and the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to “drink” from that which He has provided to us and not to partake of another's.

Next time Solomon says to his son, “let your fountains be dispersed abroad”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
