Looking Through a Window - Proverbs 7:6

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “Say unto wisdom, you are my sister; and call understanding your kinswoman: That they may keep you from the strange woman, from the stranger which flatters with her words”, and in chapter seven and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “for at the window of my house I looked through my casement” where we read,

For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,

The verse begins, “For at the window of my house .... Solomon began with the words, for at the windowor “because, since and on account that through the open window” of my house which means “belonging to my, Solomon's, dwelling place, habitation and abode”, he did the following. Solomon began to give a reason why his son was to keep away from the strange woman by wisdom and understanding as he stationed himself at the open window of his home.

The verse continues, “... I looked through my casement,” Solomon added the words, “I looked” or “I, Solomon, leaned out and gazed down to observe” “through my casement” which means “directly out of my, Solomon's, latticed front of the window”. Solomon said he leaned over to gaze out of his latticed window to observe what we see in the following verses.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon began to give his son an illustration about keeping himself from the strange woman. He leaned over to look through a latticed window in his home, and he observed what we shall discover in our next verses. Solomon desired to protect his son from the damage that occurs when a person walks into temptation and partakes, and God has the same desire for us. God gave us His law, the ten commandments, (See Exodus 20) and we are to keep those laws. However, we have failed to obey God, and have thereby sinned. Our disobedience reveals the sin that is in our lives, and the penalty for that sin is death. (See Romans 6:23). God's Son Jesus came into the world to pay the penalty of death on our behalf when He died on the cross, and now when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us illustration after illustration in the scriptures, the Bible, concerning His provision and protection for us to live a life according to His purposes and plans.

Next time Solomon shares how he, “beheld among the simple ones”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
