In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “at the window of my house I looked through my casement, ...”, and in chapter seven and verse seven of Proverbs Solomon he shares how he, “beheld among the simple ones” where we read,
And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
The verse begins, “And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “and beheld” or “and looked at, inspected, perceived and considered” “among the simple ones” which means “in the midst of the foolish, naive, silly and seducible people”, “I discerned among the youths” or “I, Solomon, understood, considered and perceived in the midst of the younger people”. Solomon shared how he observed a young person who was in the midst of others who were foolish and naive.
The verse goes on to say, “... a young man void of understanding, ...” Solomon continued with the words, “a young man” or “a youthful lad, boy or male child” “void of understanding” which means “in need of, lacking, destitute and failing in mind, will, heart and knowledge”. Solomon said the youth he observed was a male lad who was lacking in knowledge, resolution and determination.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon saw a young naive lad through his window casing, and this boy was without knowledge, resolution and determination. We shall see what this young lad does in our next few verses, but for now let us remember that Solomon is addressing this story to his son. People gain understanding and knowledge as they grow older, and many young people should carefully pay attention to avoid destruction and pain in their lives. God desires to save us from devastation, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and produce within us resolution, determination and knowledge that is in keeping with His way to live.
Next time Solomon says the young man was, “ passing through the street near her corner”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
