In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, ...”, and in chapter six and verse eight of Proverbs Solomon said the ant, “provides her meat in the summer” where we read,
Provides her meat in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.
The verse begins, “Provides her meat in the summer, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “provides her meat” or “makes ready, firm, stable and established her, the ant's, bread, food or grain” “in the summer” which means “within the dry season of summer”. Solomon shared how the “ant” establishes and makes ready it's food during the summer time months.
The verse goes on to say, “... and gathers her food in the harvest..” Solomon continued with the words, “and gathers her food” or “and collects or harvests her, the ant's, bread, food or grain” “in the harvest” which means “within the reaping time”. Solomon referred to the way the “ant” collects it's food during the reaping time.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we see how he noted the industrious way the “ant” makes provision for it's food durning the summer season so when they gathering time comes, it is able to reap. In other words, the “ant” plans and takes action in advance of it's need. God wants us to plan ahead like the “ant”, and He did the same when He knew we would die in our sins unless He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross to pay for them. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to make provision for our future needs in advance of requiring them.
Next time Solomon asks, “how long will you sleep, O sluggard?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
