In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “Say unto wisdom, you are my sister; and call understanding your kinswoman:”, and in chapter seven and verse five of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “that they may keep you from the strange woman” where we read,
That they may keep you from the strange woman, from the stranger which flatters with her words.
The verse begins, “That they may keep you from the strange woman, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “that they may keep you” or “so they, wisdom and understanding, might guard, observe, give heed to and have charge of you, Solomon's son” “from the strange woman” which means “separate and apart from the foreign, harlot and prostitute female human being”. Solomon shared how “wisdom and understanding” would watch over and protect his son whenever the foreign and prostitute woman came around.
The verse goes on to say, “... from the stranger which flatters with her words.” Solomon continued with the words, “from the stranger” or “separate and apart from the foreign, alien, harlot and prostitute” “which flatters” which means “who divides, shares, plunders, apportions and assigns” “with her words” or “by the use of her, the stranger's, utterances, declarations and proclamations”. Solomon said “wisdom and understanding” will protect his son from the foreign and prostitute woman who plunders and divides by the use of her utterances and proclamations.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon intended to employ his proclamations to protect his son from the prostitute woman who uses her “words” to seduce him. This is God's idea. He doesn't want us to suffer from the tempting utterances of people who will lead to our demise. He knows we have sin in our lives, and He sent His Son Jesus to pay the price of death on the cross for those sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide His “wisdom and understanding” to protect us from the “stranger” who would tempt us with their enticing “words”.
Next time Solomon says, “for at the window of my house I looked through my casement”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
