In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “These six things does the LORD hate: yes, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,...”, and in chapter six and verse nineteen of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren” where we read,
A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.
The verse begins, “A false witness that speaks lies, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “a false witness” or “a deceptive, fraudulent, deceitful and wrong recorder, evidence provider and testifier” “that speaks lies” which means “who utters, declares and proclaims untruths, deceptive words and falsehoods”. Solomon said Jehovah God “hates” a deceptive evidence provider who utters untruths and falsehoods.
The verse continues, “... and he that sows discord among brethren.” Solomon added the words, “and he that sows discord” or “and the person whether male or female who stretches out, extends and directs strife and contention” “among brethren” which means “in the midst of kinship, brothers and relatives”. Solomon said Jehovah God also “hates” the person who causes strife and contention in the midst of their brothers and relatives.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn of the last two of seven “things” that Jehovah God “hates” and are an “abomination” to Him. God “hates” a deceptive person who utters falsehoods and spreads strife and contention among relatives and kinsfolk. God wants truth to be among us, and He desires that we live in peace. Those who spread falsehoods and “sow discord” come directly in opposition to God's way of living because Jesus is “the way, the truth and the life” (See John 14:6), and He is the “prince of peace”. (See Isaiah 9:6) God sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and “whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. (See John 3:16) When we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from uttering “lies” and “sowing discord among our brethren”.
Next time Solomon says, “my son, keep your father's commandment”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
