In Psalms chapter nine David referred to Jehovah God as he wrote, “you have maintained my right and my cause; you sat in the throne judging right. You have rebuked the heathen, you have destroyed the wicked, you have put out their name for ever and ever”, and in chapter nine and verse six of Psalms David said, “O you enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end” where we read,
O you enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end:
and you have destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.
The verse begins, “O you enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end:” David began with the words, “O you enemy” which means “O you hating foe and adversary”, “destructions are come” or “waste, ruin and desolation have been completed, finished and made sound” “to a perpetual end” which means “toward an eminent, victorious, everlasting and continual finish”. David directed his words toward his “adversaries and foes” as he told them their “ruin and desolation” was at their everlasting and continual finish.
The verse continues, “and you have destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.” David added the words, “and you have destroyed cities” or “and you, enemies of David, have expelled, rooted out and plucked up towns and encampments”; “their memorial” which means “the cities and towns' remembrance, recollection and commemoration” “is perished with them” or “is vanished, destroyed and exterminated along with the people who resided in the towns and cities”. David wrote how his “enemies” waste and ruin of towns and villages was so complete that the memory of those places was forgotten.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David knew Jehovah God would take care of his “enemies”. Though it appears that the “heathen and wicked” prosper for a while, God is watching, and they will not be able to continue their evil forever. God will end them and their works, and the “cities” or exploits they have accomplished will be forgotten. God extends to people a different path than an unbelieving and evil one, and this happens with a personal relationship with His Son Jesus. When we humble ourselves before Jesus, turn from our wicked ways, ask Him to forgive us and to be Lord of our lives, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and begin to change us from the inside out. No longer do we need to be in bondage to sin and it's perpetual penalty, but we may be set free to live our lives before God who has a better purpose and plan for us. Let all praise, glory and honor be given to Jehovah God Almighty who will indeed judge the unjust, but is willing to change the direction of the lives of everyone who submits to Him.
Next time David says, “the LORD shall endure for ever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
