In Psalms chapter nine David wrote, “you have maintained my right and my cause; you sat in the throne judging right”, and in chapter nine and verse five of Psalms David said, “you have rebuked the heathen, you have destroyed the wicked” where we read,
You have rebuked the heathen, you have destroyed the wicked,
you have put out their name for ever and ever.
The verse begins, “You have rebuked the heathen, you have destroyed the wicked, ...” David began with the words, “you have rebuked the heathen” which means “you, Jehovah God, have reproved, chided and cried out against the pagan Gentiles, nations and people”, “you have destroyed the wicked” or “you, Jehovah God, have exterminated, blotted out and done away with the guilty, ungodly and morally wrong people”. David recalled how Jehovah God not only “reproved and chided” the pagan people of the world, but He also exterminated those who are ungodly and morally wrong.
The verse goes on to say, “... you have put out their name for ever and ever.” David continued with the words, “you have put out their name” or “you, Jehovah God, have wiped out, obliterated and abolished the pagan and wicked people's reputation, fame and glory” “for ever and ever” which means “perpetually, indefinitely and into the unending future to perpetuity and continuous existence”. David wrote how Jehovah God wiped out and obliterated the “reputation and fame” of pagan and evil people for all eternity.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn of David's idea of how God will judge people who are pagan and evil. Regardless of their reputation, fame, notoriety or wealth, when a person does not put their faith and trust in God's Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will eliminate and exterminate them for all eternity. Paul the apostle wrote, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23); “There is none righteous, no, not one” (See Romans 3:10), and “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ His Son”. (See Romans 6:23) In other words, every person is in trouble. We are all as “heathens” and as the “wicked” and are in need of a “Savior”. This is why God sent His Son Jesus into the world. Jesus died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and He was raised from the dead three days later so that people would have an opportunity to receive His forgiveness and eternal life with Him. When we place our faith and trust in Jesus, we have availed ourselves to the only way to be saved from the judgment about which David wrote. Let us humble ourselves, receive Jesus and give Him praise for all eternity for His willingness to provide a way to escape from Gods' judgment upon the “heathen” and “wicked”.
Next time David says, “O you enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
