In Psalms chapter nine David said, “When he makes inquisition for blood, he remembers them: he forgets not the cry of the humble”, and in chapter nine and verse thirteen of Psalms David said, “Have mercy upon me, O LORD” where we read,
Have mercy upon me, O LORD;
consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, you that lift me up from the gates of death:
The verse begins, “Have mercy upon me, O LORD;” David began with the words, “Have mercy upon me” which means “Be gracious, show favor and pity me, David”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David called out for Jehovah God to be gracious and have pity upon him.
The verse goes on to say, “consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, you that lift me up from the gates of death:” David continued with the words, “consider my trouble” or “look at, regard, observe, watch and give attention to my, David's, affliction, poverty and misery” “which I suffer of them” which means “that I, David, have had bestowed upon, provided by and inflicted from the adversaries and foes” “that hate me” or “who are utterly odious toward me, David”, “you that lift me up” which means “you, Jehovah God, who raise, exalt and cause to grow up” “from the gates of death” or “apart from the entrances or courts belonging to dying, pestilence and ruin”. David beckoned Jehovah God to observe and give attention to his affliction that was caused by “foes” who hated him, and that Jehovah would raise him up from the entrance of “death”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David knew how to address Jehovah God with his troubles. David called out for the “mercy” or “gracious favor” of Jehovah as he knew God would investigate the afflictions he endured by his “hating enemies”. David's desire was for Jehovah God to rescue him from death which was determined by those who opposed him. God loved David, and He loves us today. He desires to spend all eternity with us in an intimate personal relationship that was made available through the death of His Son Jesus upon a cross. Jesus died for the sins of the world, and anyone who yields their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins and live with God forever. We are to be like David and call out to the LORD God for His “mercy”, and because of Jesus, He will answer our outcry and give attention to our afflictions as we do.
Next time David says, “I will rejoice in your salvation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
