In Psalms chapter nine David said, “Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, you that lift me up from the gates of death. That I may show forth all your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in your salvation”, and in chapter nine and verse fifteen of Psalms David said, “The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made” where we read,
The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.
The verse begins, “The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made:” David began with the words, “The heathen” which means “the pagan nations, people, non-Hebrews and Gentiles” “are sunk down” or “exist as settled down, fastened and drowned” “in the pit” which means “in the grave of corruption, trap or ditch” “that they made” or “that the heathen formed, fashioned and produced”. David in contrast to his deliverance by Jehovah God stated that the unbelieving pagans would “be fastened and drown” in the very “graves or traps” that they produced for him.
The verse goes on to say, “in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.” David continued with the words, “in the net” or “within the trap or net for catching animals” “which they hid” which means “that the heathen concealed and secretly lay” “is their own foot taken” or “is the heathen people's own physical foot caught, trapped and snared”. David wrote how the “heathen people” have been captured in their own “trap” which they set to catch him.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover how David knew the pagan people who were against him would be “drowned” in their own “grave” which they made for him. He knew they had set “nets” or “traps” in which to capture him, but they would be caught in their own pernicious devices. Micah, the prophet in the Old Testament wrote, “Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.” (See Micah 2:1), and anyone who devises “nets and traps” for God's righteous believers will find themselves caught in their own devises. God loves people, and when they believe and trust in His Son Jesus, they begin a personal relationship with Him. God becomes their “Savior and Lord”, and He is their protector and defender as well. David knew Jehovah God would care for him, and we can be assured that sooner or later those who have set “nets and traps” for us will find themselves captured in their own webs.
Next time David says, “The LORD is known by the judgment which he executes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
