In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. And he answered and spoke unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused your iniquity to pass from you, and I will clothe you with change of raiment. And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by. And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying, ...”, and in chapter three and verse seven of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said what would happen, “if you will walk in my ways ...” where we read,
Thus says the LORD of hosts; If you will walk in my ways, and if you will keep my charge, then you shall also judge my house, and shall also keep my courts, and I will give you places to walk among these that stand by.
The verse reads, “Thus says the LORD of hosts; If you will walk in my ways, and if you will keep my charge, then you shall also judge my house, ...” Zechariah began with the words, “thus says the LORD of hosts” or “the following utters, declares and proclaims Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors”; “if you will walk” which means “whether and in case you, Joshua the high priest, shall amble about and live life” “in my ways” or “within my, Jehovah God's, paths, directions, journeys and manners”, “and if you will keep my charge” which means “and whether and in case you, Joshua the high priest, shall guard, observe, retain and give heed to my, Jehovah God's, injunction, office and watch”, “then you shall also judge” or “at that time will you, Joshua the high priest, even so and indeed minister judgment, requite, vindicate and contend for” “my house” which means “my, Jehovah God's, dwelling place, habitation and abode”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God who rules over the angel armies told “Joshua the high priest” that if he lived according to His direction and observed His injunctions, he would even so and indeed contend for and vindicate His dwelling place.
The verse goes on to say, “... and shall also keep my courts, and I will give you places to walk among these that stand by.” Zechariah continued with the words, “and shall also” or “and will even so and indeed” “keep my courts” which means “guard, protect and watch over my, Jehovah God's, settlements, villages and towns”, “and I will give you” or “and I, Jehovah God, shall grant, bestow, constitute and assign to you, Joshua the high priest” “places to walk” which means “locations and free accesses to amble about and make your way” “among these that stand by” or “in the midst and middle of the people who remain, endure and hold their ground”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God told Joshua that he would even so and indeed watch over His settlements and villages and have free access locations in the midst of the people who remained and endured.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God desired to provide for Joshua the high priest and the people who remained with him. When people follow the ways of God, He will provide for and protect them, and because He loves everyone, He invites us to receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to walk in His ways, keep his charge, watch over his settlements and receive His free access locations according to His perfect plan and will.
Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says, “I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
