God's Servant the BRANCH - Zechariah 3:8

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said to Joshua the high priest, “Thus says the LORD of hosts; If you will walk in my ways, and if you will keep my charge, then you shall also judge my house, and shall also keep my courts, and I will give you places to walk among these that stand by”, and in chapter three and verse eight of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH” where we read,

Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, you, and your fellows that sit before you: 

for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.

The verse reads, “Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, you, and your fellows that sit before you:” Zechariah began with the words, “hear now” or “listen, perceive, pay attention and understand at this time and moment”, “O Joshua” which means “O Joshua whose name means Jehovah is salvation” “the high priest” or “the chief, noble and eldest priest”, “you, and your fellows” which means “you, Joshua, and your, Joshua's, companions, intimate friends, other priests and fellow-citizens” “which sit before you” or “who dwell, remain, abide and inhabit in your presence”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God called upon the high priest Joshua and his fellow priests who were stationed in his presence.

The verse continues, “for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.” Zechariah added the words, “for they are men wondered at” or “because, since and on account they, the fellows of Joshua, exist as male human beings who are symbols, miracles, tokens and signs”: “for, behold” which means “because, since and on account, lo, look and consider”, “I will bring forth my servant” or “I, Jehovah God, shall cause to come and introduce my, Jehovah God's, bondservant and worshiper” “the BRANCH” which means “the sprout, growth, bud and shoot”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said the fellow priests were signals and signs to Him producing His “BRANCH” which is a reference to the Messiah Jesus.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Joshua and his fellow priests served as signs and signals that Jehovah God was going to produce His “BRANCH” which is His Son Jesus. God loves people, and because we have sin in our lives which separates us from a personal relationship with Him, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding that God has been and is aware of the world's need for a “Savior and Lord” for whom He provided His Son Jesus, “the BRANCH”, to save us from sin, death and the grave.
