In Psalms chapter fifty eight David asked, “Do you indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do you judge uprightly, O you sons of men?”, and in chapter fifty-eight and verse two of Psalms David said, “in heart you work wickedness” where we read,
Yes, in heart you work wickedness; you weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.
The verse begins, “Yes, in heart you work wickedness;” David began with the words, “Yes, in heart” or “also and so much the more, within the inner man, mind, will, soul, understanding, knowledge, thinking, reflection, memory, inclination, resolution, determination and conscience” “you work wickedness” which means “you, rulers of the people, make, ordain and practice injustice, unrighteousness, wrong, violent deeds and perverseness”. David said the rulers who were judging the people were practicing injustice and wrong within their souls.
The verse continues, “you weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.” David added the words, “you weigh the violence” or “you, rulers of the people, make level, balance and smooth out the wrong, cruelty and injustice” “of your hands” which means “belonging to your, the rulers of the people's, physical hands of strength, power and authority” “in the earth” or “within the country, territory, district, region and world”. David said the rulers who judged the people carried out cruelty and injustice within their land with the power and strength given to them.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David knew he was among a corrupt judicial system, and the “judges” were carrying out perverse and cruel sentences among the people. The problem was in the souls and minds of the judicial members, and because they were corrupt, their judgments were also debase. God loves all people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of everyone. When we yield our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give people the ability to turn from their wicked judgments to govern in a good and right manner when they have authority to do so.
Next time David says, “the wicked are estranged from the womb”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
