Sacrifices of Thanksgiving - Psalms 107:22

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said, “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse twenty-two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving” where we read,

And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

The verse begins, And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “and let them sacrifice” or “and allow and permit them, people both male and female, to slaughter, kill and offer” “the sacrifices” which means “the covenant offerings” “of thanksgiving” or “pertaining to praise, liturgical worship and hymns of praise and gratitude”. The Psalmist called upon people to give covenant offerings of gratitude and praise to Jehovah God.

The verse continues,... and declare his works with rejoicing. The Psalmist added the words, “and declare his works” or “and utter, proclaim and recount, relate, number, take account of and reckon” “with rejoicing” which means “by the means of a ringing cry, entreaty, supplication, proclamation, joy and praise”. The Psalmist add that the people of Israel should also utter and proclaim Jehovah God's acts and deeds accompanied with ringing cries of joy and praise.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist exhorted the people reading and listening to his words to offer covenant worship and hymns of praise with gratitude to Jehovah God. They were to openly proclaim Jehovah God's acts and deeds with ringing cries of joy as they returned to Him. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to offer sacrifices of praise and to proclaim His wonderful acts and deeds with joy and praise in our hearts.

Next time the Psalmist shares about, “they that go down to the sea in ships”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
