In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist said the people of Israel, “did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them, but were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse thirty-seven of Psalms the Psalmist shared how the people of Israel, “sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils” where we read,
Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,
The verse begins, “Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “yes, they sacrificed their sons” or “even so and indeed, they, the people of Israel, slaughtered, offered and slayed their, the people of Israel's, male offspring, prodigy and descendants” “and their daughters” which means “and their, the people of Israel's, female offspring, prodigy and descendants”. (See Exodus 34:16; Judges 3:6-7) The Psalmist said the people of Israel worshiped the idols of the heathen to such a degree that they offered their children to them in sacrifice.
The verse goes on to say, “unto devils.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “unto devils” or “to demons”. The Psalmist said the people of Israel offered their children unto demons as they “served” the pagan gods and idols.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist shared how the people of Israel went so far as to offer their children as a sacrifice unto demons as they worshiped the pagan nations false gods and idols. Perhaps we cannot imagine such a travesty, but this is the pathway for following and serving gods other than Jehovah God who sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. God loves us, and if there is anything or anyone whom we devote our time, energy, money and efforts to other than Him, we are serving false gods and idols. God offers His salvation and deliverance from sins when we believe and trust in His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, and when we yield to Him, and Him only, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us in fellowship and communion with Him. Peter the apostle said, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved”, and we are wise when we take heed to his Holy Spirit inspired words. (See Acts 4:12)
Next time the Psalmist shares how the people of Israel, “shed innocent blood”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
