In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if you deliver him, yet you must do it again”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon said, “hear counsel, and receive instruction” where we read,
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.
The verse begins, “Hear counsel, and receive instruction, ...” Solomon began with the words, “hear counsel” or “listen to, perceive and observe purpose, prudence and advice”, “and receive instruction” which means “and take, accept and choose discipline, chastening and correction”. Solomon said to listen to and obey advice and to accept and choose discipline and correction.
The verse goes on to say, “... that you may be wise in your latter end.” Solomon continued with the words, “that you may be wise” or “so you, readers and listeners to Solomon's words, might restrain from acting in an evil manner, judge or govern” “in your latter end” which means “within your, the readers and listeners to Solomon's words, last, hinder-most and future time”. Solomon said the benefit of accepting discipline and observing advice and will be wisdom to live in the hinder-most and future time.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Solomon wanted his readers and listeners to observe the advice and accept the insight and discipline of Jehovah God. The promise associated with doing so would be that skillfulness, shrewdness and prudence would continue with them into the future, and when we receive God's Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life teach us to listen to His advice and insight so we will be “wise” for all our lives both here on earth and in Heaven above.
Next time Solomon says, “there are many devices in a man's heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
