A Little Lower Than the Angels - Psalms 8:5

In Psalms chapter eight, David said, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained; What is man, that you are mindful of him? and the son of man, that you visit him?”, and in chapter eight and verse five of Psalms David said, “you have made him a little lower than the angels” where we read,

For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and have crowned him with glory and honor.

The verse begins, “For you have made him a little lower than the angels, ...” David began with the words, “For you have made him” which means “because, since and on account that you, O LORD, have caused, formed and fashioned man” “a little lower” or “to be a small amount less, diminished, lacking, decreased and abated” “than the angels” which means “compared to the spiritual envoys and messengers of God”. David said Jehovah God formed and fashioned mankind to be a small amount less than His envoys and messengers.

The verse continues, “... and have crowned him with glory and honor.” David added words, “and have crowned him” or “and have encompassed and encircled mankind” “with glory” or “having honor, abundance, splendor, riches and dignity” “and honor” which means “and majesty, beauty, comeliness and excellency”. David said Jehovah God “encompassed” mankind with “abundance, splendor, dignity, beauty and excellency”.

When we mediate upon the words in this verse, we see how David was overwhelmed with the idea of Jehovah God fashioning mankind in a manner that was just a small amount less than His “messengers from Heaven”, and He encircled mankind with “splendor, beauty and excellency”. God created people with great abilities and gifts, and He desires to bless them with eternal abundance and beauty. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of mankind, and when they believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive them of their sins, deliver them from the bondage of sin and grant them everlasting life with Him. There is no greater “glory and honor” than to be encircled by the God of the Universe with these.

Next time David says, “you made him to have dominion over the works of your hands”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
