In Psalms chapter eight, David said, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained; What is man, that you are mindful of him? and the son of man, that you visit him? For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and have crowned him with glory and honor”, and in chapter eight and verse six of Psalms David said, “you made him to have dominion over the works of your hands” where we read,
You made him to have dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet:
The verse begins, “You made him to have dominion over the works of your hands;” David began with the words, “You made him to have dominion” which means “You, Jehovah God, caused, formed and fashioned mankind to have rule and reign” “over the works” or “above and overseeing the deeds, labor, business, pursuits, undertakings and enterprises” “of your hands” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, hands”. David recognized that Jehovah God set mankind over and in charge of the labor and undertakings of His hands.
The verse goes on to say, “you have put all things under his feet:” David continued with the words, “you have put” or “you, Jehovah God, have placed, set and established” “all things” or “each, every, the whole and everything” “under his feet” which means “beneath the feet of mankind”. David said Jehovah God placed everything beneath the feet of mankind and subject to them.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David understood how Jehovah God put mankind in charge of His labors and enterprises. God made them, and He allows people to be over them. Mankind was to have “dominion” upon the earth, and this was God's gift to him. God loves people, and when sin entered the world (See Genesis 3), mankind became in bondage to sin. God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay the penalty for sin which was death. (See Romans 6:23) When we submit our lives to Jesus, He will break the curse of sin within us, free us from it's hold and grant us everlasting life with Him. Let us give praise to the LORD God Almighty who not only formed and fashioned everything, but also gave people the oversight of it.
Next time David refers to, “all sheep and oxen, yes, and the beast of the field”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
