In Psalms chapter eight, David said that God made man, “a little lower than the angels, and have crowned him with glory and honor. You made him to have dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet”, and in chapter eight and verse seven of Psalms David referred to, “all sheep and oxen, yes, and the beast of the field” where we read,
All sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field;
The verse begins, “All sheep and oxen, ...” David began with the words, “All sheep” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the flock of grazing animals” “and oxen” or “and cattle or kine such as a cow or ox”. David said Jehovah God also gave mankind “dominion” over the “sheep and oxen” that He created.
The verse continues, “yes, and the beasts of the field; David added the words, “yes, and the beasts” or “even so, also, indeed and moreover the cattle, animals, livestock and wild beasts” “of the fields” or “belonging to the land, plains and countryside”. David shared how Jehovah God also gave mankind “dominion and charge” over the animals and wild beasts of the plains.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David said Jehovah God put mankind in charge of the domestic farm animals as well as the wild beasts. Mankind was given “dominion” over the animals to care for and watch over them. God loves people, and He gave them the ability to attend to His creation. He knew people had sin in their lives that separated them from a personal relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for those sins so mankind could live with Him forever. When we believe and trust in Jesus, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life with Him. Praise be to God who sent us His Son Jesus and has entrusted mankind with His animals!
Next time David refers to, “the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
