In Psalms chapter seven David wrote, “My defense is of God, which saves the upright in heart. God judges the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow, and made it ready. He has also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordains his arrows against the persecutors. Behold, he travails with iniquity, and has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood”, and in chapter seven and verse fifteen of Psalms David spoke of one who, “made a pit … and is fallen into the ditch which he made” where we read,
He made a pit, and dug it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.
The verse begins, “He made a pit, and dug it, ...” David began with the words, “He made a pit” which means “the persecutor fashioned and formed a well or cistern”, “and dug it” or “and pried and delved into and explored the well or cistern”. David shared how his persecutor formed a well like a dungeon and explored it.
The verse goes on to say, “... and is fallen into the ditch which he made.” David continued with the words, “and is fallen” or “and lie prostrate” “into the ditch” or “within the grave of corruption” “which he made” which means “that the persecutor formed and fashioned”. David wrote how his persecutor was cast down prostrate into the pit or grave that he dug.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how David's persecutor formed and fashioned a well or cistern that was much like a grave. The idea was that it would be a snare for David, however, David knew his persecutor would fall into his own trap. Many times people make plans and plots against the people of God, and God has a way of having them fall into their own graves. God is a protector of those who believe and trust in His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, and He will turn their enemies plans upon themselves. Let us give honor and praise to the LORD for His protective ways over those who yield to Him.
Next time David says, “His mischief shall return upon his own head”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
