In Psalms chapter seven David wrote, “My defense is of God, which saves the upright in heart. God judges the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow, and made it ready. He has also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordains his arrows against the persecutors”, and in chapter seven and verse fourteen of Psalms David spoke of one who, “travails with iniquity” where we read,
Behold, he travails with iniquity, and has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
The verse begins, “Behold, he travails with iniquity, ...” David began with the words, “Behold, he travails” which means “lo, look and consider that the persecutor destroys, spoils and offends” “with iniquity” or “with trouble, wickedness, sorrow and idolatry”. David perceived that his persecutor destroys and offends with their wickedness and idolatry.
The verse continues, “... and has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.” David added the words, “and has conceived mischief” or “and has contrived and devised trouble, labor and toil”, “and brought forth falsehood” or “and has beget, engendered and brought forth deception and disappointment”. David shared how his persecutor contrived labor, trouble and toil as well as engendered deception and disappointment against him.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David's persecutors destroyed, contrived trouble and engendered deception. In other words, they caused all kinds of trouble. God knows people tend to go against His ways, and because of this, they have sin, error and wrong in their lives. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and when they believe and trust in Him, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. Let us give praise to God for His insight to the plans and purposes of those who would persecute His believers and allow Him to manage them according to His divine ways.
Next time David says, “he made a pit … and is fallen into the ditch which he made”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
