What is Man that God is Mindful? - Psalms 8:4

In Psalms chapter eight, David said, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained;”, and in chapter eight and verse four of Psalms David asked, “What is man, that you are mindful of him?” where we read,

What is man, that you are mindful of him? and the son of man, that you visit him?

The verse begins, “What is man, that you are mindful of him?” David began with the words, “What is man” which means “of what kind and where with exists mankind whether male or female”, “that you are mindful of him” or “that you, O LORD, remember, recall, call to mind and mention man”? David wondered how the LORD could even recall or remember mankind.

The verse goes on to say, “and the son of man, that you visit him?” David continued with the words, “and the son of man” or “and the offspring or progeny of mankind whether male or female”, “that you visit him” or “that you, O LORD, attend to, reckon, appoint, look after and pay attention to people”? David questioned how Jehovah God would attend to and look after anyone.

When we consider the words in this verse, we perceive the marveling of David who wondered how God could even remember or attend to people and their offspring. God is so huge and powerful, and to think that He would be “mindful” and “attentive” to us is overwhelming, and yet, He loves us and desires to have an intimate personal relationship with us. He sent His Son Jesus to free us from the bondage of sin to set us free to relate to Him and be granted eternal life with Him forever. We may not be able to understand “why” God is mindful and attentive to us, but we can simply receive Him as our “Lord and Savior” and enjoy the promises He gives through Jesus forever and ever.
