Maintain My Right and My Cause - Psalms 9:4

In Psalms chapter nine David wrote, “I will praise you, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will show forth all your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in you: I will sing praise to your name, O you most High. When my enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at your presence”, and in chapter nine and verse four of Psalms David said, “you have maintained my right and my cause” where we read,

For you have maintained my right and my cause; you sat in the throne judging right.

The verse begins, For you have maintained my right and my cause; David began with the words, “for you have maintained” which means “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God, have made, produced, effected and attended to” “my right” or “my, David's, judgment, justice, ordinance and litigation” “and my cause” which means “and my, David's, plea, legal suit and dispute”. David noted how Jehovah God attended to his litigation and dispute.

The verse continues, you sat in the throne judging right.David added the words, “you sat in the throne” or “you, Jehovah God, were seated, fixed and established in the seat of honor, royal dignity, authority and power” “judging right” which means “governing, vindicating, punishing and deciding controversies of man in a just and righteous manner”. David acknowledged that Jehovah God governed and decided controversies of mankind as He “sat” upon His seat of honor, authority and power.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David understood the power and authority of Jehovah God to rule over the controversies he encountered. David recognized God's position upon His “throne”, and he knew Jehovah God would make judgments according to His righteous position against his foes. God is righteous, just and holy, and He knows the hearts and minds of people. He knows their plans, and He is able to govern and make decisions over them with all knowledge and true accuracy. This same Jehovah God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. When we submit to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and sit in authority over those who come against us. God knows. God cares, and God loves us with an everlasting love that deserves our praise and obedience to His ways and righteousness.

Next time David says, “you have rebuked the heathen, you have destroyed the wicked”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
