How Excellent is Your Name - Psalms 8:9

In Psalms chapter eight, David speaking of man said that God, “made him a little lower than the angels, and have crowned him with glory and honor. You made him to have dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet. All sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field. The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passes through the paths of the seas”, and in chapter eight and verse nine of Psalms David repeats the phrase, “O LORD our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth!” where we read,

O LORD our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth!

The verse begins, O LORD our Lord, ...” David began with the words, “O LORD” which means “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “our Lord” or “our firm, strong, lord, master and God”. David repeated his address to Jehovah God whom he proclaimed to be “lord, master and God” of himself and others who believed in Him.

The verse continues, “... how excellent is your name in all the earth!David added the words, “how excellent is your name” or “how majestic, great, gallant and glorious exists your, Jehovah's, reputation, fame and glory” “in all the earth” or “within the whole, totality and everything within the arable land, country, territory and world”! David called out to Jehovah God and proclaimed the greatness of His reputation, fame and glory throughout the whole world.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David repeated the first phrase of the first verse in this Psalm. As though he was inspired to even greater excitement as he proclaimed the greatness of the LORD, David could not help but declare again how “excellent” Jehovah God's reputation and fame was throughout the world. Anyone who comes to God through His Son Jesus will begin to discover how wonderful He truly is, and when we submit ourselves to His plan of salvation and forgiveness of sins, we will find Him “excellent” in all His ways. Praise be to our “excellent” God who desires a personal intimate relationship with everyone, and those who surrender to Him will spend all eternity exalting His glorious name.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, “I will praise you, O LORD, with my whole heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
