Praising the Lord with a Whole Heart - Psalms 9:1

Psalms chapter nine begins with the heading, , “[[To the chief Musician upon Muthlabben, A Psalm of David.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the overseer, preeminent and superintending choral director” “upon Muthlabben” which means “to be sung to the tune - death of a son”, “A Psalm” or “a melody or poem set to notes” “of David” which means “belonging to David whose name means beloved and was the second king of Israel”, and in Psalms chapter nine and verse one David said, “I will praise you, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will show forth all your marvelous works” where we read,

I will praise you, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will show forth all your marvelous works.

The verse begins, I will praise you, O LORD, with my whole heart; David began with the words, “I will praise you” which means “I, David, will give thanks to, laud, confess, revere and worship you, Jehovah God”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “with my whole heart” which means “by the use of all, everything and the totality of my, David's, inner man, mind, soul, inclination, determination, conscience, passions and seat of emotions”. David shared how he would give honor, glory and reverence to Jehovah God with every passion and emotion that is within him.

The verse goes on to say,I will show forth all your marvelous works.David continued with the words, “I will show forth” or “I, David, will reckon, recount, relate and rehearse” “all your marvelous works” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of your, Jehovah God's, wonderful, surpassing and extraordinary accomplishments, labors and deeds”! David declared that he would make known and rehearse every one of Jehovah God's wonderful, surpassing and extraordinary labors.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David was a passionate lover and worshiper of Jehovah God. Not only did he give the LORD honor, glory and “praise”, but he also promised to make known the wonderful works of God. God desires a relationship like this with every person, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross so when a person believes and trusts in Him, they will be forgiven of their sins and enjoy an intimate personal kinship with Him. When we surrender our lives to Jesus, we cannot help but “praise the LORD” with everything that is within us, and our passions and emotions are easily yielded to Him. This makes us want to share His glorious works with others, and may we give all praise, honor and glory to Jesus as we do.

Next time David says, “I will be glad and rejoice in you: I will sing praise to your name”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
