Out of the Mouth of Babes - Psalms 8:2

Psalms chapter eight began with David's words, “O LORD our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth! who has set your glory above the heavens”, and in chapter eight and verse two of Psalms David said, “Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings have you ordained strength” where we read,

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings have you ordained strength because of your enemies,

that you might still the enemy and the avenger.

The verse begins, “Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings have you ordained strength because of your enemies, ...” David began with the words, “Out of the mouth of babes” which means “from the orifices which are used for speaking and eating belonging to young children” “and sucklings” or “and nursing babies” “have you ordained strength” which means “you, Jehovah God, have fixed, established and founded power, might and boldness” “because of your enemies” or “for the purpose, intent, order and account belonging to Jehovah's foes and adversaries”. David said Jehovah God established power, might and boldness within the “mouths” of little children and nursing babies.

The verse goes on to say, “... that you might still the enemy and the avenger.” David continued with the words, “that you might still” or “so you, Jehovah God, may cease, desist, exterminate and destroy” “the enemy” or “the hating adversary and foe” “and the avenger” which means “the one who takes vengeance, entertains revengeful feelings and punishes”. David wrote how Jehovah God would exterminate and destroy the hating adversary and foe as well as the one who takes vengeance and punishment.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Jehovah God uses the voices of small children to establish His power and strength. Through their voices He exterminates and destroys adversaries and foes to His people. God loves everyone, however, when people resist and refuse Him and His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, they are as “enemies and adversaries” whom He will oppose and destroy. The powerful God and Creator of the Universe is able to exterminate anyone who comes against His beloved, and we may join David in our praise and worship of Him as we yield ourselves to His Son Jesus.
