Praising the LORD - Psalms 7:17

In Psalms chapter seven David wrote, “My defense is of God, which saves the upright in heart. God judges the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow, and made it ready. He has also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordains his arrows against the persecutors. Behold, he travails with iniquity, and has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood. He made a pit, and dug it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate”, and in chapter seven and verse seventeen of Psalms David said, “I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness” where we read,

I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness:

and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

The verse begins, “I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness:” David began with the words, “I will praise the LORD” which means “I, David, will give thanks, laud, revere and worship Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of One True God” “according to his righteousness” or “toward Jehovah's rightness and justice”. David said he would give thanks and worship Jehovah God toward His rightness and justice.

The verse goes on to say, “and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.” David continued with the words, “and will sing praise” or “and will make music with a voice or musical instrument” “to the name of the LORD most high” or “toward the reputation, fame and glory belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God and the Highest or Supreme”. David wrote how he would break out in song with his voice or a musical instrument in worship toward Jehovah God who is the Highest and Supreme.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how David responded to the LORD God in worship when he knew his enemy would be handled by Him. David began speaking to God about his enemy, gained proper perspective as he turned his foe over to God, and finished this Psalm in song. God loves us, and His desire is to have a loving personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. When we submit ourselves to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. He also becomes our protector and defense against our foes. This should cause us to “sing praise” in worship to the LORD God “most high” who is worthy of all our “glory, honor and praise”.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see David exclaim, “O LORD our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth!”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
