In Psalms chapter seven David wrote, “My defense is of God, which saves the upright in heart. God judges the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day”, and in chapter seven and verse twelve of Psalms David declared, “If he turn not, he will whet his sword” where we read,
If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow, and made it ready.
The verse begins, “If he turn not, he will whet his sword;” David began with the words, “if he turn not” which means “whether and in case he, the wicked person, does not repent and turn away from his sin and apostate ways”, “he will whet” or “he, Jehovah God, will hammer out and sharpen” “his sword” which means “his, God's, knife or tool for cutting stone”. David warned that if the wicked person did not repent of his ways and return to God, God would sharpen and ready His “knife” of correction.
The verse continues, “he has bent his bow, and made it ready.” David added the words, “he has bent his bow” or “he, God, has drawn his bow as an archer”, “and made it ready” or “and prepared, set up, fixed and established his, God's, archery bow”. David wrote how God prepared his archer bow and readied it for use.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how God gives an opportunity for His enemies to turn from their wicked ways, but if they do not, He is prepared to bring judgment upon them. God desired to save people from their sins, and when they believe and trust in His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life with Him. Because we are in a relationship with God, we may turn our adversaries over to the Lord Jesus, and give Him praise and honor for His willingness to defend us when we have need.
Next time David says, “He has also prepared for him the instruments of death”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
