Iniquity Removed in One Day - Zechariah 3:9

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said “Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, you, and your fellows that sit before you: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH”, and in chapter three and verse nine of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day” where we read,

For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, says the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

The verse reads, For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: Zechariahbegan with the words, “for behold the stone” or “because, since and on account that lo, look and consider the precious memorial jewel or rock” “that I have laid” which means “that I, Jehovah God, gave, bestowed, granted, ascribed, entrusted and produced” “before Joshua” or “in front, in the face and before the countenance of Joshua whose name means Jehovah is salvation and was the high priest”; “upon one stone” which means “on a single precious memorial jewel or rock” “shall be seven eyes” or “will exist seven facets”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God called upon all people to consider the precious jewel He placed in front of “Joshua” the high priest that would have “seven” facets upon it.

The verse goes on to say, “behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, says the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. Zechariah continued with the words, “behold, I will engrave” or “lo, look and consider, I, Jehovah God, shall draw, set and break forth” “the graving thereof” which means “the carving within the jewel”, “says the LORD of hosts” or “utters, declares and proclaims Jehovah who is the existing One who over the spiritual army of angels and warriors”, “and I will remove the iniquity” which means “and I, Jehovah God, shall withdraw, take away and cease the perversity, depravity, mischief and guilt” “of that land” or “belonging to that country, territory, district and region” “in one day” which means “within one single division or period of time”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God who rules over angel armies called upon everyone to consider that He would draw and set forth the craving within the jewel, and He would take away the perversity and depravity within the country and region within one season or time period.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God involves Himself in the lives of the people of Israel through their spiritual leader, “Joshua the high priest” and leaders or fellow-priests, and He places a jeweled stone before Joshua that has seven facets to it. God would carve words into the stone, and take away all the sin, error and wrong within the country in one time period. God is able to alter the world any time He desires, and because people have sin in their lives, they are separated from a relationship with God and are destined to die. (See Romans 3:23; 6:23) God wants a personal relationship with everyone, and this is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life, establish Himself as our “Savior and Lord” and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (See 1 John 1:9)

Next time Zechariah shares how Jehovah God says what will happen, “under the vine and under the fig tree”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
