Under the Vine and Fig Tree - Zechariah 3:10

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said, “Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, you, and your fellows that sit before you: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, says the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day”, and in chapter three and verse ten of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said what will happen, “under the vine and under the fig tree” where we read,

In that day, says the LORD of hosts,

shall you call every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig tree.

The verse reads, In that day, says the LORD of hosts, ... Zechariah began with the words, “in that day” or “within that division or period of time”, “says the LORD of hosts” which means “utters, declared and proclaims Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who is over the spiritual army of angels and warriors” the following words. Zechariah referred to a time period when Jehovah God who rules over the angel armies will declare the following.

The verse continues, “... shall you call every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig tree. Zechariah added the words, “shall you call” or “will you, the people of Israel, cry out, proclaim, summon and shout aloud to” “every man his neighbor” which means “each, the whole and all people, both male and female, their companions, intimate friends and fellow-citizens,” “under the vine or “beneath the twinging and bending vines such as grape vines” “and under the fig tree” which means “and beneath the tree that bears fig fruit”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God said everyone would call out to their companions and fellow-citizens while they rest beneath the twining grape vines and trees that bear figs.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Israel would be so at rest that they would shout aloud to their fellow-citizens and companions to join them beneath the twining vines and trees that bear figs. God invites everyone to be in a personal intimate relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to invite others to receive Jesus as their “Savior and Lord” and to join us in the Kingdom of God.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Zechariah share how the angel, “waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
