In Psalms chapter fifty eight David said, “The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies. Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stops her ear”, and in chapter fifty-eight and verse five of Psalms David said, “Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers” where we read,
Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.
The verse begins, “Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, ...” David began with the words, “which will not hearken” or “who shall in no way or manner listen to or be obedient” “to the voice” which means “to the sound or noise” “of charmers” or “belonging to whisperers, conjurers or ones who mumble spells”. David said people who are wicked do not listen to nor obey the whisperers or conjurers.
The verse goes on to say, “...charming never so wisely.” David continued with the word, “charming” or “whispering, conjuring and mumbling” “never so wisely” which means “no matter how skillfully the cunning enchanters play”. David said the whisperers and conjurers played skillfully, but it had no effect upon the wicked.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see through David how the wicked refuse to hearken to and obey the whisperers even when they skillfully play their instruments. In other words, the wicked are stubborn and unwilling to change their ways. Isaiah the prophet wrote, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all” (See Isaiah 53.6), and therefore, everyone is guilty of sin. (See Romans 3:10, 23) This is why Jehovah God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we humble ourselves and believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. If we stop our ears and refuse to obey Jesus, we will remain in our sins and be judged by Him for not listening to His beautiful plan of redemption for our eternal lives.
Next time David says, “Break their teeth, O God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
