In Psalms chapter fifty eight David said, “The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies”, and in chapter fifty-eight and verse four of Psalms David said, “Their poison is like the poison of a serpent” where we read,
Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stops her ear;
The verse begins, “Their poison is like the poison of a serpent:” David began with the words, “their poison” or “the wicked's venom, hot displeasure, indignation, anger and wrath” “is like the poison” which means “is similar and in likeness to the venom, hot displeasure, indignation, anger and wrath” “of a serpent” or “belonging to a snake”. David said the hot displeasure and indignation of the “wicked” is similar to the indignation and wrath of a snake.
The verse continues, “they are like the deaf adder that stops her ear;” David added the words, “they are like the deaf adder” or “they, the wicked, exist similar and in likeness to a non-hearing venomous serpent perhaps the cobra or viper” “that stops her ear” which means “that shuts up and closes the snake's ear as the organ for hearing”. David said the wicked are similar to the venomous snake that keeps it's physical ear from hearing.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David employed the venom of snakes as an example of the conduct of wicked people. Like the snake that spits it's venom at prey, evil people use their voices to make declarations of indignation and wrath. They also do not want to hear the truth of God, and they refuse to have Him be Lord over their lives. God knows all people have these traits until they come to know His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. Paul the apostle wrote, “Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:” (See Romans 3:12-14), however, anyone who believes and trusts in Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Let us give praise and honor to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus who not only is able to save us, but will protect us from the “venom” and “deafness” of the wicked.
Next time David says, “Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
