The Righteous Rejoicing at Vengeance - Psalms 58:10

In Psalms chapter fifty eight David appealed to Jehovah God concerning the wicked to, “Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD. Let them melt away as waters which run continually: when he bends his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces. As a snail which melts, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun. Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath”, and in chapter fifty-eight and verse ten of Psalms David said, “The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance” where we read,

The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance:

he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

The verse begins, “The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance: David began with the words, “The righteous” or “the lawful and just in conduct and character” “shall rejoice” which means “will be glad, exult and cheer up” “when he sees the vengeance” or “at the time and moment he, the righteous, observes, looks upon and beholds the revenge, payback and retaliation”. David said people who are just and lawful in their character and behavior will be glad when they observe the retaliation of Jehovah God upon the wicked.

The verse continues, “he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. David added the words, “he shall wash his feet” or “he, Jehovah God, will bathe or lave his own feet” “in the blood” which means “within the bloodshed” “of the wicked” or “belonging to the criminal, guilty and hostile to God”. David said Jehovah God would bathe his feet in the bloodshed of people who were criminals and hostile to God.

When we meditate upon words in this verse, we see how David knew people who were lawful and just would observe the judgment of Jehovah God upon people who are evil, and the effect of His “vengeance” would be that He would bathe His feet in their bloodshed. God will indeed judge the unrighteous, but this is not His first desire. Jesus said, “God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved” (See John 3:17), and God wants to save every person who humbles themselves, repents of their sins and receives Jesus into their hearts and lives. When we believe in Him, we will be forgiven of our sins and granted everlasting life with God. Let us give praise and honor to Jesus Christ as our “Savior and Lord” and never be named among those whom He will judge and bathe His feet within their “blood”.

Next time David says, “a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
