Breaking the Gates of Brass - Psalms 107:16

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist repeated the phrase, “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse sixteen of Psalms the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “he has broken the gates of brass” where we read,

For he has broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.

The verse begins, For he has broken the gates of brass, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “for he has broken the gates” or “because, since and on account that he, Jehovah God, destroyed, crushed and quenched the doors or two leaved lids” “of brass” which means “made with copper, bronze or ore”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God destroyed the doors made with copper or bronze.

The verse continues,... and cut the bars of iron in sunder. The Psalmist added the words, “and cut the bars of iron” or “and hewed and chopped down the city fortresses and bolts made with strong metal such as an axe head or iron implement” “in sunder” which means “in two”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God chopped down the fortresses strengthened with iron metal.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist shared about Jehovah God breaking the restrictive doors made with bronze and the imprisoning bars made with metal iron. In other words, Jehovah God freed the people of Israel from restrictive bonds. God wants to free everyone from the bondage of sin, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and free us from the restraints that are caused by sinful ways.

Next time the Psalmist shares about, “fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
