Fools Because of Transgressions and Iniquities - Psalms 107:17

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “he has broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse seventeen of Psalms the Psalmist shared about, “fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities” where we read,

Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

The verse begins, Fools because of their transgression, ... The Psalmist began with the word, “fools” or “quarrelsome, silly and perverse people” “because of their transgression” which means “since and on account of their rebellion, revolt and moral or religious trespass” have the following happen to them. The Psalmist said the following happens to people on account of their rebellion and trespass against Jehovah God.

The verse goes on to say,... and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. The Psalmist continued with the words, “and because of their iniquity” or “and since and on account of their, the foolish people's, perversity, depravity and guilt of punishment for mischief”, “are afflicted” which means “exist as occupied, oppressed, humbled and bowed down”. The Psalmist shared how the people of Israel suffer oppression and humiliation because they committed perverse, depraved and mischievous acts and deeds.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to foolish people who committed wicked acts, and they suffered affliction because of it. This is not Jehovah God's desire for people. He knows what happens to people when they commit wickedness and evil, and He doesn't want them to endure these hardships and pains. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from foolish transgressions and iniquities that cause pain, difficulty and harm in our lives.

Next time the Psalmist says, “their soul abhors all manner of meat”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
