God's Word Sent and Healed Them - Psalms 107:20

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist said, “Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. Their soul abhors all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death. Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saves them out of their distresses”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse twenty of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “sent his word, and healed them” where we read,

He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

The verse begins, He sent his word, and healed them, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “he sent his word” or “He, Jehovah God, dispatched and assigned his, Jehovah God's, speech, utterance and saying”, “and healed them” which means “and made healthy, mended and cured them, the foolish people of Israel”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God dispatched His utterance and mended the sinful people of Israel.

The verse continues,... and delivered them from their destructions. The Psalmist added the words, “and delivered them” or “and rescued, saved and liberated them, the foolish people of Israel” “from their destructions” which means “separate and apart from their, the foolish people of Israel's, pitfall or sinking down”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God rescued the foolish people of Israel from their pitfall and sinking down.

When we meditate the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God brought healing to the foolish people of Israel just by speaking. He created the world and everything within it with His voice, and delivering the people of Israel who suffered affliction because of their sin was accomplished in the same way. God provided salvation from sins by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and rescue us from sin and death to live with Him forever in Heaven.

Next time the Psalmist repeats the phrase, “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
