Mingled Among the Heathen - Psalms 106:35

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist said the people of Israel, “did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse thirty-five of Psalms the Psalmist shared how the people of Israel, “were mingled among the heathen” where we read,

But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

The verse begins, But were mingled among the heathen, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “but were mingled” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover existed as occupied, exchanged and undertaken” “among the heathen” which means “in the midst and middle of the non-Hebrew, foreign and Gentile nations”. The Psalmist shared how the people of Israel were occupied and undertaken with the pagan and foreign nations.

The verse goes on to say... and learned their works. The Psalmist continued with the words, “and learned” or “and were exercised in, taught and trained in” “their works” which means “their, the people of the foreign and pagan nations, acts, deeds and practices”. The Psalmist said the people of Israel were taught and trained in the ways of the pagan nations.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the way the people of Israel not only forsook Jehovah God's ways, but they began to learn and practice the ways of the pagan nations. This was the danger God knew when they did not destroy the nations God instructed them to eliminate. God wants a personal intimate relationship with every person, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind so this could be. When we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from following and learning the ways of pagan nations and people that are opposed to Jehovah God.

Next time the Psalmist shares how the people of Israel, “served their idols”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
