Raising the Stormy Wind - Psalms 107:25

In Psalms one hundred seven the Psalmist shared about, “They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters. These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep”, and in chapter one hundred seven and verse twenty-five of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “commands, and raises the stormy wind” where we read,

For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves thereof.

The verse begins, For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “for he commands” or “because, since and on account that he, Jehovah God, speaks, utters and orders”, “and raises the stormy wind” which means “and stops, stands still and hold upright the tempestuous and agitated air”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God stops the tempestuous and agitated wind with His order and word.

The verse continues,... which lifts up the waves thereof. The Psalmist added the words, “which lifts up” or “that exalts, lifts up and sets on high” “the waves thereof” which means “the heaping and billowing springs or heaps of water within the sea”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God puts a halt to the blustering wind that causes billowing springs and heaps within the sea.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the power of Jehovah God's word over the tempestuous and billowing “wind” which causes heaps of water within the sea. Jesus demonstrated His power when the winds were boisterous as the apostle Peter step out of a boat to walk on water and when He was awakened by His disciples during a storm that arose while He was asleep on a boat. (See Matthew 14:22-33; Mark 4:35-41) God has power over the winds and waves, and He is able to control them with just a simple word. He will do the same for every person who comes to Him through His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and say “Peace be still” to any tempestuous winds that cause waves in our lives.

Next time the Psalmist said, “they mount up to heaven, they go down again to the depths”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
