Breath Going Forth and Returning to the Earth - Psalms 146:4

In Psalms one hundred and forty six the Psalmist said, “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help”, and in chapter one hundred forty six and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, his breath goes forth, he returns to his earth where we read,

His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

The verse begins, His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth;. The Psalmist began with the words, “his breath goes forth” or “his, the prince or son of man's, wind, mind, spirit, vivacity, vigor and courage departs, proceeds and leads away”, “he returns to his earth” which means “he, the prince or son of man, turns, comes and is restored to his, the prince or son of man's, territory, country, region, district and world”. The Psalmist shared how the prince or son of man's spirit departs, and he goes back to the ground of the world.

The verse continues, “in that very day his thoughts perish.” The Psalmist added the words, “in that very day” or “within the same time, period or age” “his thoughts perish” which means “his, the prince or son of man's, thinking, ideas and counsels vanish, go astray, are destroyed and exterminated”. The Psalmist said on the same “day” that the royal ruler, leader of son of man doesn't breathe anymore, he goes back to the “earth” and every idea and counsel he ever had vanishes.

When we think through David's words in this verse, we learn through the Psalmist about the temporary nature of people who rule, reign and are born. Although people have ideas when they are alive, the same time their breath leaves them, so does their thinking and counsel. God is eternal, and He knows there is eternal life for every person. He desires to have everyone live with Him forever in Heaven, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind to make this happen. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to rely upon Him rather than temporal people even if they lead and rule over others.

Next time the Psalmist says, Happy is he that has the God of Jacob for his help, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
