The Beast and Young Ravens - Psalms 147:9

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven the Psalmist said, “Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: Who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow upon the mountains”, and in chapter one hundred forty seven and verse nine of Psalms the Psalmist shared about, “the beast and young ravens” where we read,

He gives to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.

The verse begins, “He gives to the beast his food, .... The Psalmist began with the words, “ he gives to the beast” or “He, Jehovah God, bestows, adds and provides to cattle, animals, livestock and wild beasts” “his food” which means “his, the beast's, sustenance, maintenance and nourishment”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God provides nourishment to cattle and wild animals in the world.

The verse goes on to say, “... and to the young ravens which cry.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and to the young ravens” or “and toward the youthful offspring or progeny of raven birds” “which cry” which means “that call, shout aloud and utter a loud sound”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God also gives nourishment to the offspring of raven birds that utter loud sounds.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God is responsible for the nourishment of the “beast” and “raven” in the world. God created the world and everything within it, and He is able to sustain His work. God made us as well, and He wants to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who was crucified upon the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide for us in the same manner and care that He gives to His “beast and raven” in the world.

Next time the Psalmist says about Jehovah God, “he delights not in the strength of the horse”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
