Unlike Any Other Nation - Psalms 147:20

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “shows his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel”, and in chapter one hundred forty seven and verse twenty of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “has not dealt so with any nation” where we read,

He has not dealt so with any nation:

and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise you the LORD.

The verse begins, He has not dealt so with any nation:. The Psalmist began with the words, “he has not dealt so” or “He, Jehovah God, has in no way or manner managed, conducted or fashioned His ways” “with any nation” which means “alongside any other people group, heathens or foreign lands”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God has in no way given His law, judgments or statutes to any other people group than Israel.

The verse goes on to say, “and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise you the LORD.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and as for his judgments” or “and in referring to his, Jehovah God's, justice, ordinances, processes, procedures and litigation”, “they have not known them” which means “they, the foreign nations, have in no way or manner been aware of, perceived, understood and discerned them, the statutes and judgments of Jehovah God”. “Praise you” or “you, people who are reading and listening to the Psalmist's words, give thanksgiving, adoration and worship to” “the LORD” which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist said the foreign nations were unaware of the ordinances and processes of Jehovah God, and He ended this Psalm with exhorting his readers and listeners to give adoration and thanksgiving unto Jehovah God.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist made a distinction between the nation of “Israel” and all the other nations in the world. God chose “Israel” to be the nation through whom His law would be given, His promise of eternal life would be made and His way of salvation could be known through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us the value of His “judgments, ordinances and salvation” in our lives in the way He did for “Israel”.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see the Psalmist say, “Praise you the LORD from the heavens”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
