Casting Ice Like Morsels - Psalms 147:17

In Psalms one hundred and forty seven the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “gives snow like wool: he scatters the hoarfrost like ashes”, and in chapter one hundred forty seven and verse seventeen of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “casts forth his ice like morsels” where we read,

He casts forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?

The verse begins, He casts forth his ice like morsels:. The Psalmist began with the words, “he casts forth his ice” or “he, Jehovah God, flings, hurls and throws his, Jehovah God's, frozen ice crystals” “like morsels” which means “similar and in likeness to fragments, bits and pieces”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God flings His ice crystals out similar to bits, fragments and pieces.

The verse continues, “who can stand before his cold?” The Psalmist added the words, “who can stand” or “what person is able and capable to remain, endure, continue or persist” “before his cold” which means “in advance and in the presence of his, Jehovah God's, coolness or frigid temperatures due to winds”? The Psalmist asked what person would be able to remain and continue in the presence of Jehovah God's fierce “cold”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist continued to share about Jehovah God's making of the frozen elements in the world. He governs over “ice crystals”, and no one can withstand His bitter “cold”. God made the world and everything that is within it, including us, and when He knew we were separated from Him because we sinned, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to appreciate His making and governing over the frozen and cold elements in the world.

Next time the Psalmist says Jehovah God, “sends out his word, and melts them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
